Last 2 week was amazing, Heartland Incubation Hub Represented Nigeria at the Slush Global Impact Accelerator Program where over 15 hubs participated from the different part of the Globe to showcase their startups and to learn and collaborate on ways to build stronger innovation ecosystems in their region through a different workshop facilitated by international recognized expert. Kolapo Ogungbile, the Hub Manager was In Helsinki, Finland to participate in the Activities.

Key highlight from the trip Includes a visit to Maria 01 – the fastest growing and arguably best startup Hub in the Nordics.
The workshop on strengthening local Ecosystem with Christo Thekkel of Eikyo VC can’t easily fade away as the discussion on how to strengthen Local ecosystem, macro-level development was incisive.
Workshop on “Connected Hub” by Auri Evokari of SAIS – South Africa Innovation Support Program played a critical role in identifying collaboration with other Hubs.
There was also a breakfast session with Samsung Nordics to learn about the sort of activities Samsung engages with startup ecosystems.
If you are wondering what Slush GIA program is, earlier in the year Heartland Incubation Hub, a venture of Oluaka Institute partnered with Slush Global Impact Accelerator for the 2018 edition of the Global Impact Accelerator Program. The purpose is to support impact-driven start-ups and showcase exciting business opportunities in emerging markets, which are also vital for implementing the Agenda 2030 and solving complex challenges.
In addition, the program also focused on strengthening the networks between the impact actors, engaging the Nordic community with the global impact entrepreneurs, and enhancing the mobilization of capital towards impactful businesses. Slush Global Impact Accelerator is an international program designed for entrepreneurs from selected emerging markets in partnership with the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and multiple partners globally.
During the Local Bootcamp at HIH, 12 startups participated in the four-week Bootcamp – they were shortlisted from over 160 application. 3 of the impact startup were selected (Arone, Afagreen and Gerocare) from the final pitch competition of which Gerocare Finally made the all-expense paid trip to Helsinki for another week of Bootcamp and meeting with international investors.
We are happy to have been part of the SLUSH GIA program 2018 and we will continue to work with talented entrepreneurs in our ecosystem by building their capacity, connecting them to mentors and providing access to investment.
